A Community Remembrance Project Montgomery, Alabama This Project is a project that is about changing the narrative. The soil that you collect will not only go as part of this exhibit, it will also be used to make a memorial We’ve now bought some land here in Montgomery, where we hope to build a memorial to the victims of lynching. Thousands of racial terror lynchings took place in the United States Most victims were never publicly recognized. It’s a confrontation, because you are confronted with truth, in a visual way that is undeniable. For all I know, some of the very dirt we dug was there. EJI is collecting soil from lynching sites across the nation I thought that digging on that soil was a poignant way to connect with the time, the event, and most importantly, the man.
