Giving back to the community in Kamloops

In the spirit of collaboration and it’s
support of our community we are making the announcement that Unifor and Domtar
intend to donate $1,000,000 over the next five years to the Royal Inland
Hospital Foundation. We are proud to be part of this partnership with our
Unifor national, Domtar and our local. As JC said going through this process, no wasn’t the
answer. We are a Union of activists, members of local 10b and Domtar should be very proud of the leadership they’ve shown and they’re
setting an example for not only locals in Canada but employers across British
Columbia and Canada. The CCF was built to build communities
and give back to communities and this is a good union community in British
Columbia and the local came to us with the idea that they wanted us to partner
with them and we worked with Domtar. It was a good opportunity for us to do
something significant and big in this community and British Columbia. We’re Unifor members, we live in Kamloops, we work here, we want to make it a better
place. For this to actually happen where we live it’s great to see it go in. It’s
a great resource to have here it’s a trauma center for pretty much the whole
interior of BC and it’s just nice to be able to give back to our community. As a
retirees chapter we thought that we had to step up and also the local union
stepped up and we are very proud of the donation that we are giving today.
Kamloops is due for this expansion and it will immensely help the people of
Kamloops to get to where they need to be after this construction is finished. With
donors like Unifor and Domtar we can be proud of our facilities and the
excellent care that we provide. This donation will allow RH to
contribute as a leader in the health care provisions in the province so on
behalf of the Royal Inland and Interior Health we are very very thankful and
thank you for this. This is the largest donation that we’ve ever made with a
single employer with Domtar so it’s a historical moment for Unifor and
for British Columbia.
